Locking into what we want
Desire | Work | Poet's corner
This week I’ve been exploring Desire.
I hope this first week of winter hasn’t thrown you off and you’ve had a great week.
There are some new mirrors and a new shop, including one special one…
I’m going into my next big work phase, I hope you enjoy it.
This week
Desire
I want it
The feeling comes frequently. A famous villain once asked:
“What is it that we covet?”
We live in a world where we navigate from one coveted desire to another. But are these the feelings and experiences we truly need to survive, or are they the byproducts of a world designed to exploit our insecurities for gain?
We see those around us living lives we envy—wearing the clothes, taking the holidays, driving the cars. Slowly, insecurity creeps in, as if the world is racing ahead without us.
Desire takes hold.
We search for ways to bridge the gap, to elevate our lives to match what we see.
But what of this endless chase?
Do we ever really get there?
I’m no stranger to it—I’m in the battle every day. I thought pursuing art might remove me from this cycle. Yet, when I see someone achieve something I haven’t, something I could have, I feel it. That pull. Oh, to be like them.
And then I’m reminded—it’s not the path they took that I desire, but the endstate. It’s the illusion of arrival, not the journey itself, that tugs at me.
And so, the chase continues.
Expectations
Why do we do this? Why do we push so far beyond where we are?
It’s simple: we want to improve.
We treat these purchases, these accomplishments, as trophies—proof of growth, markers of progress. Even in relationships, we aspire to certain values and experiences:
To be loved in a specific way.
To feel secure.
But the truth is, all of this comes from within.
We can only gain what we already have inside us. To be loved like in a movie romance, we must be ready to play our part. To own the car, we must embrace the lifestyle that demands it.
Sometimes, our desires get the better of us. Often, when we finally attain what we covet, the feeling is fleeting. The prize rarely delivers the lasting emotions we imagined it would.
What never disappoints, however, is achieving the feeling ourselves.
To feel loved, all we must do is love.
To feel strong, all we must do is embody strength.
The source of fulfillment is not in the prize—it’s in our ability to create the feeling we seek.
The Chase
So what is it we’re chasing, if not the things we see?
We’re chasing a way of being—an internal state we yearn for. The accolades, the possessions, the milestones—these are just the symbols, the easiest targets for our visual minds to grasp.
But what if we could anchor our goals, our desires, to something deeper?
What if the feeling we’re searching for isn’t in the things themselves, but in the process, hidden in the practice of living intentionally? What if we could train ourselves to recognize and cultivate it?
As above, so below.

Poets’ corner
This week’s poem delves into the theme of Desire.
Longing
Longing for everything,
I never will get,
I never have got.
Longing to become somebody,
Leading to shrinking
to something I’m not.
What’s next
I think I’ve figured out something cool with the mirrors.
I’ve got some hard work to get done this week to catch up on last’s Issue.
But I hope you’ll enjoy what’s coming next.
