Hot Girls Like Art
Something happened a few years ago,
We started thinking that how we look
Is more important than how we feel.
We started focusing on how we present ourselves.
How others perceive us.
At some point in time
someone realised and started using this against us.
It happened a long time before this newsletter…
Maybe someone should have written this earlier…
Russ Jones
I’m an artist and writer based in London. I’m the host of Love, Art and War, a video podcast exploring novel routes through the three consistent parts of societies experience. Hot Girls Like Art is a weekly newsletter that follows my studio practice of trying to understand how much control we have and whether it is ever enough (or too much). Right now, I’m really interested in the utility of love as a way to mess with your identity.
I write about
☀️ Freedom and what it means
📱 Identity and where we have it
💰 Control and how we regain it
🎨 Art, my art, other people’s art, art
🚀 And very rarely war, geopolitics and state-level power plays
These notes are my way of understanding the journey while making stuff that nobody asked for.
I’m a conceptual artist, so if you like to think, hopefully I’m a helpful sparring partner for you in whatever you’re thinking about.
Along the way, I’ve been a soldier, a corporate dog, I’ve been broke, I’ve been rich, and I’ve done everything in between.
I don’t like rules, and I don’t know how “the art world” works.
My art teacher kicked me out of class because I was disruptive when I was 15, and I haven’t been back since.
I like being disruptive.
I don’t know where this goes.
But.
I know it’s going to be interesting.
Hope you enjoy the ride.
Love you loads
Russ x
